Highway fuel economy drops quickly above about 60 mph: aerodynamic drag grows with the square of speed, so cruising at 75 instead of 65 mph typically costs 10–15% more fuel. Roof boxes and bike racks add drag too, and a fully loaded car uses a little more fuel than an empty one.
